India is referred to as a ‘young nation’ with 28 million population of youth being added every year. This young population should be considered as an invaluable asset which, if equipped with knowledge and skills, can contribute effectively to the development of the national as well as the global economy. With this vision to realize India’s human resource potential to its fullest in the education sector, with equity and inclusion, the Ministry of Human Resource Development  has launched the National  Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) starting from Class IX onwards, to be implemented in the educational systems throughout the Schools, Colleges, Polytechnics and Universities from the academic year 2013-14. The NVEQF  sets common principles and guidelines for a nationally recognized qualification system, covering schools, vocational education institutes and institutes of higher education with qualifications ranging from secondary to doctorate level, leading to international recognition of national standards.  Under NVEQF students will have the scope for vertical and horizontal mobility with multiple entry and exits. This will be especially useful to promote the creative genius of every child, including children with special needs.
To strengthen this programme (NVEQF), the CBSE has decided to introduce this in all the CBSE affiliated schools starting from Level 1 (Class IX) onwards from the session 2013-14 vide its Circular no. Acad-05/2013 dated 10th January, 2013. This programme offers various skill based courses to impart knowledge and training that strengthen the core skills of the students’.
