The term ‘Life Skills Education’, is widely used nowadays. World Health Organisation (WHO) defined Life Skills Education as, “the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with demands and challenges of everyday life.” UNICEF defines Life Skills as, “a behavior change or behavior development approach designed to address a balance of three areas: knowledge, attitude, and skills.”
Therefore, life skills are a large group of psycho-social and interpersonal skills, which can help students to make informed decisions, communicate effectively, and develop coping and self-management skills that may help children to lead healthy and productive life. In everyday life, the development of life skills helps students to:
  •  find new ways of thinking and problem-solving
  •  recognize the impact of their actions
  •  teach them to take responsibility for what they do rather than blaming others
  •  build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and cooperation
  •  analyze options, make decisions, and understand why they make certain choices
  •  develop a greater sense of self-awareness and appreciation for others
  •  imbibe the ability to self-manage, solve problems and understand the situation
  •  work well as part of a team
  •  observe time management
  •  develop agility and adaptability to different roles and environments
  •  have the potential to lead by influence
  •  respect diversity
  •  develop negotiation skills, the ability to network and empathize can help to build resolutions
  • rather than resentments
